Your Library Card

All residents of Laurens County and all persons who are employed full time or who own property in Laurens County are entitled to obtain a library card at no cost. We ask that you fill out a brief form and show identification with your current mailing address. If your ID does not contain your current address, you may show other documentation of your address.

With your card, you may use any services at either library location, and the bookmobile.

Bring your card with you when visiting the library, and do not lend your card to others. Be sure to report lost or stolen cards promptly. You will be responsible for all fines or charges incurred.

Children Under 18

Children age 13 and under must have the approval of a parent or guardian to obtain a card. Parents are responsible for the selection and use of library materials. They are also responsible for incurred fines and fees of all children under the age of 18.

Reciprocal Libraries

The Laurens County Library has a reciprocal agreement with Greenville, Greenwood, and Newberry Counties. Residents of those counties may obtain a Laurens County library card at no cost if in good standing with their home county library. Residents of other counties may obtain a card for $10.00. IF you are a Laurens County resident and in good standing with the library, you may obtain a card at above county libraries, subject to their policies and regulations.

Books, audio books, DVDs and Blu-Rays can be renewed up to three times unless there are other requests for the item(s).

Requests and holds can be placed for these items, including those at other LCPL locations.

We regularly transport items between Laurens and Clinton.

Ask any staff member at any time for help locating a book or other item. If we do not have what you are looking for, we can consider borrowing from another library or purchasing it for our collection.

TumbleBook Library TumbleBookLibrary is a curated database of children’s e-books, available by subscription to Elementary Schools and Public Libraries around the world.
Discus Kids A youth-focused collection of digital databases freely provided by South Carolina State Library that offers resources to reader's advisor, research materials, and kid-safe media (such as games and videos).

Highlights: Magic School Bus, Learn 360, Study SC (Elementary),
Overdrive Kids A collection of Ebooks, audiobooks, and digital comics for children. Guardians can download Libby from their device's app store to access the collection on their smart device.

Student Volunteers

  • Student volunteers must be at least 13 and up to 17 years of age. They must be 13 years old by the date on which they first volunteer.
  • Volunteers must complete the Student Volunteer Application prior to being assigned any times.
  • Volunteers are responsible for getting their availability to Ms. Streett as soon as possible so that a tentative schedule may be made.
  • Once the days and times have been agreed upon, volunteers will be responsible for following the attendance policy below.


Attendance: With the exception of being absent for illness, a volunteer must provide at least 24 hours’ notice if they will miss a previously agreed upon day or time. If you are sick, 24 hours’ notice is not needed, but please contact the library as soon as possible. Please call 864-681-7323 or email Youth Services Library Assistant Jordan Streett at regarding any absences or change of schedule. Volunteers who fail to show for their hours without appropriate notice 3 times will no longer be permitted to volunteer for the library. Should you need to resign from your position, please notify Ms. Streett as soon as possible.


Volunteer Forms for Organizations: Any volunteer forms that must be signed should be given to the library director, deputy director, or youth services staff. Volunteer forms may not be signed by other staff members.


Personal Conduct: Volunteers are asked to be courteous and considerate of others. If patrons ask for assistance, please direct them to a staff member. Cell phone use is prohibited during volunteer hours. As for dress code, you may dress casually and comfortably, but please keep in mind that this is an office setting and you are a representative of the library as a volunteer. Pants and skirts should not cut off any higher than the knee, and clothing should not have any political or profane/obscene writing or imagery.

The purpose of book requests, either for purchase or obtained through interlibrary loan, is to provide materials not available in the Laurens County Library System. This privilege is available to Laurens County residents with a current library card in good standing. Requests may be made at any location, by phone, or on our website.  Each patron may have up to 5 pending or filled interlibrary loan requests at one time.
Complete the linked form below. Patrons can use sites such as to find the full title, author, publication date and ISBN (for books). In order to contact you regarding your request, please provide your full name, phone number, library card number, email (if applicable), which branch you would like to pick up your materials at (Laurens, Clinton or Bookmobile), and whether your item is a large print book, an audiobook, DVD, or juvenile or young adult book.
Interlibrary Loans
  • ILL items check out for three weeks and there are no renewals available.
  • There is a $2 fine for any ILL item that is not picked up by the requesting patron.
  • Interlibrary loan privileges can be refused on the basis of repeated requests not picked up, repeated overdues and other misuse.
The following items are unable to be requested through ILL:
  • Materials held by the Laurens County Library system, items published within the last twelve months
  • Entire copies of magazines or periodicals
  • Textbooks
  • Items in special collections (such as genealogy materials)
  • Audiobooks and DVDs

If the Laurens County Public Libraries (LCPL) believe an item will be a good addition, based on our collection development policy, we will attempt to purchase any new books, DVDs or audiobooks.
Please note: LCPL will try our best to create a collection that suits the needs and interests of our community, but there is no guarantee we will be able to get every item requested. Sometimes certain books, DVDs or audiobooks are unavailable for us to order from our vendors.

The Elaine Martin Local History Room

The Elaine Martin Local History Room at The Laurens County Library has an extensive collection of materials (PDF iconGenealogy Materials at LCPL) relating to this area's history and its people. These resources are available to all residents and visitors. Because of the valuable nature of these materials , all must be used in the library.
While the library cannot undertake individual research, the staff will gladly assist you with the use of these resources. A map of the Martin Local History Room can be found here (PDF iconMap of Room)
The Martin Local History Room is open during all regular hours of the library. If you are coming from out of town it is suggested that you call before your visit to make sure that the library will be open for your research. Holidays and staff work days may cause a schedule change.

Remote Requests for Information
The Laurens County Public Library will provide limited research and answer genealogy related questions for those unable to come into the library. The Research Request Form must be completed and submitted with a $10.00 minimum fee, which includes mailing or emailing up to five pages. Additional pages are $.50 per page. Questions should be specific and for an obituary look up, dates of death must be provided. Only one name per form request, please. We are unable to research questions such as “everything you can find on the Jones family” or “anything you find about John Jones.”
All questions – including those by phone – will be answered in the order in which we receive. Please allow up to four weeks for a reply. We only provide research for or information to individuals and do not do investigative research for companies, agencies, or law firms.

Obituary Date of death is required. is helpful when searching for dates of death in Laurens County. Specify whether to search the Clinton Chronicle, Laurensville Herald or Laurens Advertiser. Dates of Microfilm can be found by searching our catalog for titles of papers.
Book/Periodical Lookup Search our catalog to verify that we have the title you are looking for. We are able to copy a limited amount of pages. For Index search, provide full name or subject.
Wills, Deeds and Estates Microfilmed Laurens County records at the Library are only available  up to approximately the year 1900.  All requests should be for specific items and list name, book, volume, page and other pertinent information. More recent records are not available at the Library but may be available through the Probate Court of Laurens County.
Marriage Records Marriage records are not available at the Library but are only available at the Probate Court of Laurens County and do not start until 1911. has the earlier marriage application records on their website.
Birth Records (Not available at the library.) See SCDHEC for more information.  The SC Archives has birth certificates dating earlier than 100 years ago, available to the public.
Death Records (Not available at the library.) has SC death records, beginning in 1915 up to the early 1960s.
