The purpose of book requests, either for purchase or obtained through interlibrary loan, is to provide materials not available in the Laurens County Library System. This privilege is available to Laurens County residents with a current library card in good standing. Requests may be made at any location, by phone, or on our website. Each patron may have up to 5 pending or filled interlibrary loan requests at one time.
Complete the linked form below. Patrons can use sites such as Amazon.com to find the full title, author, publication date and ISBN (for books). In order to contact you regarding your request, please provide your full name, phone number, library card number, email (if applicable), which branch you would like to pick up your materials at (Laurens, Clinton or Bookmobile), and whether your item is a large print book, an audiobook, DVD, or juvenile or young adult book.
ILL items check out for three weeks and there are no renewals available.
Interlibrary loan privileges can be refused on the basis of repeated requests not picked up, repeated overdues and other misuse.
The following items are unable to be requested through ILL:
Materials held by the Laurens County Library system, items published within the last twelve months
Entire copies of magazines or periodicals
Items in special collections (such as genealogy materials)
Audiobooks and DVDs
Suggest an Item
If the Laurens County Public Libraries (LCPL) believe an item will be a good addition, based on our collection development policy, we will attempt to purchase any new books, DVDs or audiobooks.
Please note: LCPL will try our best to create a collection that suits the needs and interests of our community, but there is no guarantee we will be able to get every item requested. Sometimes certain books, DVDs or audiobooks are unavailable for us to order from our vendors.
The Elaine Martin Local History Room at The Laurens County Library has an extensive collection of materials (Genealogy Materials at LCPL) relating to this area's history and its people. These resources are available to all residents and visitors. Because of the valuable nature of these materials , all must be used in the library.
While the library cannot undertake individual research, the staff will gladly assist you with the use of these resources. A map of the Martin Local History Room can be found here (Map of Room)
The Martin Local History Room is open during all regular hours of the library. If you are coming from out of town it is suggested that you call before your visit to make sure that the library will be open for your research. Holidays and staff work days may cause a schedule change.
Remote Requests for Information
The Laurens County Public Library will provide limited research and answer genealogy related questions for those unable to come into the library. The Research Request Form must be completed and submitted with a $10.00 minimum fee, which includes mailing or emailing up to five pages. Additional pages are $.50 per page. Questions should be specific and for an obituary look up, dates of death must be provided. Only one name per form request, please. We are unable to research questions such as “everything you can find on the Jones family” or “anything you find about John Jones.”
All questions – including those by phone – will be answered in the order in which we receive. Please allow up to four weeks for a reply. We only provide research for or information to individuals and do not do investigative research for companies, agencies, or law firms.
