E-books Now Available at the Laurens County Library
The Laurens County Library is pleased to announce that e-books and downloadable audio books are now available for its patrons.
In late autumn, the Library joined the Jasmine Consortium, a group of libraries in SC that have pooled their resources to purchase e-books for their patrons. The collective effort of the Consortium makes it possible to have thousands titles available to patrons of the participating libraries and more are being added all the time. Titles include a variety of popular fiction and non-fiction in both e-book and audio book format.
These books will be available to those with Kindle, Nook and other e-reader and audio devices. They can be loaded onto the device from home, 24 hours a day and do not need to be returned, as they delete themselves from the e-reader when the check-out period is over. Thus, there is never a late fee and the reader can take advantage of library services without leaving home.
The library also wants everyone to know that it is not expecting these e-books to replace traditional books. “It is just like big print or audio books. These e-books are just another option the reader has. The important thing is the enjoyment and enrichment of reading.” Says Ann Szypulski, Director of the Laurens County Public Library System.
An active Library card is a person’s first requirement. Late fees and over dues items will prevent someone from checking them out, so a patron’s record/account must be in order also. Then, by visiting the Laurens Library’s website (www.lcpl.org) a link to the Jasmine Consortium is available. With tips on getting started and FAQ information the rest should be easy. Browsing the titles comes next and the final step is checking out. There is a limit of 5 e-books per patron.
So if you just got an e-reader for Christmas, or have had one for a long time, let the Laurens County Public Library System help you enjoy using it. Be sure to call the Library at 681-7323 with any questions, or stop by either Library location for a demonstration

Thursday, February 16, at 6:30 PM, the Laurens County Library will host Knit Night, a show and tell featuring projects with gadgets, patterns and fibers.
Beginners, novices, hobbyists, and expert knitters are asked to come in with their current or completed projects and share with others their successes and frustrations.
